i am sarah caldwell. while we may not end up buried in snow, we may not be completely out of the woods. >> this morning we had some rain, mixed precipitation north d west of us. all that is moving on, at least temporarily. this is the satellite image first. i will show you two things here. break in the clouds, south of maryland and in the ocean. now add the rain to this thing and you will see that the reins of mood -- rains have moved to the eatern shore. we are still seeing two parts of this storm. rainy part for the baltimore metro area is over for the time being. still some more stuff to come in. we will talk about details in the forecast for us and also

for new england. >> as we saw with that picture of new england, boston will be one of the hardest hit areas. it is where we find jay gray. >> wind and snow is picking up and boston could see two to three feet before it is finished. snow is starting to fall, and it could be brutal weekend across the northeast. >> blizzard warnings are up, ares sheeted in red. >> millions must get ready. >> rock-solid, calcium chloride, snow shovels. no sleds yet. >> others are stocking up on the city' -- on necessities. >> milk and other things i need for the weekend. >> getting out has become all but impossible by air.

in many areas the roads will be impossible as well. a parking abn -- ban is in effect in boston and the government has ordered non- essential employees to work from home. salt and sand as been loaded into trucks as they tried to stay ahead of conditions that are expected to intensify into tomorrow morning. but for many, the time to prepare for this warmth is quickly running out -- for this storm. is quickly. >> according to cnn, nearly 3000 u.s. flights have already been grounded for today and tomorrow. many airlines are offering free rebooking. united and southwest airlines are also including chicago. the snow and when prompted amtrak to halt service between new york and boston this

afternoon. you can see the interactive radar contract updates and see pictures and video of the areas hardest hit by the storm on our web site, wbaltv.com. at least eight people are in the hospital following a carbon monoxide scare in east baltimore. baltimore city fire crews responded to the 1600 block of north broadway. we are told that a furnace in the home of function, leading to high carbon monoxide readings. about an hour later, crews responded to his side elementary school for another co scare. officials found high carbon monoxide readings in the boiler room. no one required treatment and they continued as usual. a mother is charged with murdering her young daughter and disposing of the body. chelsea booth told investigators that she killed her 2-year-old daughter by smothering her.

she claimed that she had been possessed under a muslim curse. body inher daughter's the dumpster. investigators have since found the remains. lowell melser will offer an update tonight at 5:00. a severn man whose son ingested illegally purchased methadone has been cleared of child abuse charges. paul brooks left to the medication in his car, where his 5-year-old son was able to grab it. the judge did find brooks guilty of nine other charges, including reckless endangerment. the 11 news at noon team has uncovered information on a police-involved shooting from last spring. the attorney's office says it will not file charges against fred murry. he reportedly shot a man through

the windshield of his patrol car. the man came at him with a knife, and that is when the officer fired five shots through the windshield, wounding the other man. . the attorney's office found that he acted in self-defense. in a separate case being monitored by the i-team, we've learned that the case against 15-year-old shooter robert gladden jr. will remain in adult court. attorney for the teenager wanted to move the case to juvenile court but the judge denied the motion. gladden faces charges including attempted first-degree murder. barry simms will have to judge's decision tonight on 11 news at 5:00 and 6:00. still ahead, an explanation for the 34-minute power outage during the super bowl. >> please welcome super bowl champion and mvp joe flacco. >> more tv appearances for the

>> the company responsible for supplying power to the superdome in new orleans says it has found the cause of the game time. power. officials with entergy said that a device installed to prevent power failure failed. crews are working to install replacement equipment. you will remember that the failure caused a 34-minute blackout during the super bowl. you think it failed? ravens coach john harbaugh talked about that outage with david letterman last night, but it did not take long for the conversation to turn to his brother, jim. >> did you ever get a sense growing up that there was favoritism? were you the favor? was jim the favorite? >> i felt like it jim was the favored pretty much the whole -- [laughter] but attitudes, our sister, joni, was the true favorite.

>> today is leon panetta's last day as secretary of defense. president obama will co-host a farewell ceremony today. he finished his term by testifying at a committee on the attacks in benghazi. chuck hagel has not been confirmed. also waiting for confirmation, john brennan, nominee for head of the cia. brennan won praise after the thursday confirmation hearing, where he defended drone attacks on terror suspects. tracie potts has the latest from capitol hill. >> truth, full truth -- >> it looks like john brennan is gaining the support of several lawmakers after defending drone attacks on terror suspects, even american spirit at least three whad been killed so

you get up 1000 feet, frederick -- frederick is not quite 1000 -- 30's in western maryland. if it starts precipitating out there, it will be snow or close to it. here is our storm. there is even some thunder in this. just off of ocean city. this is all the moisture that is writing off of new england. part 2 of the storm -- again, these will be merging, and that is when this really gets going. all of this moister with and getting all morning will convert to snow and just sit as the storm intensifies over new england, and that will be the case through tomorrow. wide area of winter storm warnings. this is blowing through all the

snow you have got. we still have the advisories. our forecast for the rest of the afternoon -- yeah, we could see a little wintry mix. there might be a little bit on the north edges on the cecil county. then rain could come back into the situation. and then later this afternoon intohe evening hours, temperatures start to fall and winds start to pick up. we could still see the transition back into a snow situation. high temperature range boosts the-nieto -- the high end a little bit. small craft advisories on debate this afternoon and goes to kill warnings tonight.

the three-foot shop will go to four or 5-foot out on the bay. for tonight, 24 to 29. like snow. i have a feeling that will be in the eastern part of maryland or the northeast corner of the state. the package of the storm as it is pulling away from us -- back edge of the storm as it is pulling away from us. how much snow false? here is the latest amounts in the northeast part of the state. we get up over 3 ft., and the bull's-eye over boston and providence and ryland. -- rhode island. insta-weather futurecast shows the storm pulling away from cape cod. that is where they start collecting overnight into tomorrow.

things will find a pullout of the picture and we kind of settled down for the rest of the weekend. by that we mean in the morning snow showers would end tomorrow and we can get some sunshine to break through. then a wintry mix possible on monday. we will do it all over again. >> los angeles police are leading one of the largest manhunt in agency history for a former officer suspected of targeting current officers and their families. three people are dead and two others wounded and the search has expanded into mexico. >> the lapd headquarters remain a target, so today it is a fortress with the entrances and exits heavily guarded. this as police across the state hunt down a man who used to wear a badge. police said christopher dorner's vehicle was discovered in the

big bear area three hours outside of california. a burned out truck was found yesterday afternoon. police say they found footsteps, but there was no sign nodorner. -- no sign of dorner. a former lapd officer, he is a popular no -- cop killer now. officers are looking from northern to southern california for the suspect. he could be anywhere. here in downtown los angeles, a swat team members are actively deployed all across the region and across the city. some swat team members are on rooftops looking for the suspect. there is fear that he will try to continue more murders targeting their officers. >> the u.s. postal service continues to lose money. in just the last three months of
